Type 1 Diabetes

Definition: A medical condition characterized by high blood glucose levels caused by a total lack of insulin in the bloodstream. This condition usually develops in young people but can appear in adults. The disease occurs when the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas are attacked by the body's immune system and destroyed.
