Will Mumbai Terror Attacks Hurt Biotech Businesses?
India has been a hotspot for biotechnology in recent years and is a popular location for drug development and new businesses, particularly CSOs doing clinical trials. So how will yesterday's events in Mumbai affect trade and business development between India and the biotech hubs in North America and Europe? The Mumbai stock exchange is closed today as a result, and foreigners are reportedly putting serious thought into getting out of the country. In an interview on Canada's CBC radio this morning, one Deloitte executive officer said it's a shame the terrorists have targeted foreigners, many of whom are not on vacation, but are there to bring business, therefore money, into India. Although the terror attacks may temporarily hinder relationships between India and western countries, his opinion was that while there is an anticipated slowdown in all business activities, it is not expected to last long.
