Business Courses Compliment a Science Degree

Friday October 12, 2007

Combining a science degree with another discipline is never a bad idea. The more versatile you are, the more options you have in the biotech industry. Science and Law are two complimentary programs that can lead to a lucrative and rewarding career. If you want to remain involved in R&D, however, or aim to work in other areas of the pharmaceutical industry, consider taking some business courses. Courses in marketing or business management will make your resume stand out among the crowd, particularly when applying for jobs at smaller biotech startups, where versatility is emphasized and everyone is encouraged to fulfill many different roles. These courses will also help you if part of your reasons for getting a Ph.D. are to start your own company, as they'll come in handy when it comes time to write a business plan and give you more credibility when seeking startup funding.
