Summer is nearly over and the mosquito season is definitely long past, but I found myself wondering today, with another season gone by, how much closer are we to finding a vaccine for the West Nile Virus? The ChimeriVax-West Nile vaccine by Acambis entered into clinical trials on volunteer test subjects in 2003 and was reportedly "looking good" according to Phase 1 data reported in May 2005. The vaccine is a key component of the Acambis pipeline and is currently in the second stage of Phase 2 trials. The company cites their vaccine as the most advanced investigational vaccine against WNV.
